The blue curve is what your cork does to a tone. Along the bottom is what this image sends to the laser; up the left is where those tones land once burned. Where the curve goes flat, tones that differ on screen come out identical on cork.

1 — burn a tile

Until you do this, every preview in the modeler is a plausible guess. The tile is a step wedge of known grays plus line pairs down to 0.2 mm; burning it measures what your cork, your 10 W module and your power and speed actually do.

Import the png into Bambu Suite and check it reads the size printed above. It is DPI-tagged to land at true size; if it comes in scaled, set it back by hand, because the tile is measured in millimeters and a scaled import gives confidently wrong numbers with nothing on screen to show it.
Engrave it on your cork at the power and speed you actually use, with every image adjustment in Bambu Suite left neutral.
Photograph the whole tile flat-on in even light — no flash, no glare, all four corner squares in frame. Even lighting matters more than anything else.

The four corner squares are found automatically, and the code along the tile’s bottom edge says which tile it is and which way up you shot it. If the corners are not found, tap each one on the photo — any order — and drag a marker to nudge it.

Whatever is loaded in the modeler right now. If you burned something else, load that back into the modeler first — a photo checked against the wrong file reads as the model being wrong.

2 — photograph the finished insert

Flat on, in color, in color-neutral light, filling the frame. Then tap its four corners — where the straight edges would meet, not where the rounded corner begins. The tool nudges them into place from there. A grayscale shot still checks the model; it just cannot measure what color the char is.
